Just when we think we are getting away from the winter months we prepare ourselves for another cold storm front!!  The drastic change in temperatures are finding many newly engaged brides uncertain about what finger size to choose for their engagement ring. 

Here are a couple of pointers to keep in mind:

1.  Weight Loss:  Though this does not affect everyone, some brides that plan on losing a significant amount of weight will more than likely notice changes in their finger size.  If one is planning to add a wedding band onto the ring this will often times take away some of the "slack"

2.  Width of the ring:  A size 6 narrow band will fit more loosely on a finger compared to a size 6 wider ring.  Often time people have to go up a 1/4 to 1/2 a size for a wide ring to fit comfortably.  This is also a good tip to keep in mind if you are going to add a wedding band to it!

3:  Finger Fluctuation:  Though everyone is different, some peoples finger sizes are really affected water retention, exercise and hormone changes.  Try to become more aware of your hands throughout different times of the day before you make a decision on a ring size - this will help avoid future resizings!

4. The real truth:  There are just some days that your ring fits tight and other days it just may feel too big....... but the main objective is to fit a happy medium where you will be able to wear your ring comfortably 98% of the time!!

Isn't it amazing how the warm summer months can play such a vital role in how we feel, wear our clothes and even how our rings fit?  Aside from a few too many refreshing cocktails and summer food fare, one of the biggest complaints we hear in the jewelry business is how tight and uncomfortable peoples rings are.  Food intake is a huge factor for many people, too much sodium intake (and beer) can cause swelling and bloating - especially in our extremities- but the heat and humidity also play a large factor in how much our fingers have a tendency to "swell up".  So before you run to your favorite jeweler thinking you need to pay unnecessary repair charges to size your rings up - wait out the toughest of the summer months and reach for products like Windex to help slip your ring off instead of lotion (your ring will stay much, much cleaner!) or wrap your hand around a cold summer drink in hopes you you can shrink your hand down long enough to slip the ring off!

As the summer months fly by we want to take a moment and remind all of our friends to drop off your jewelry and have it cleaned and inspected by a jeweler you know and trust.  Sand and dirt are often the biggest culprits when it comes to jewelry damage, repair and loose stones.  Sound crazy, but often times dirt caught in the links of watches and bracelets can actually act as almost a "sandpaper" and cause more wear and tear between the individual links.  In the case of rings that may have a loose stone or two, dirt will often times become so compacted that it can disguise a loose stone from moving and cannot be easily spotted without a thorough cleaning.  So we invite you to stop by and drop your items off for a little TLC & find us on Facebook for more special offers!!

The summer months are usually filled with weddings and anniversaries here in the midwest!  This is the time of year when most couples are in search of mens wedding bands and often times become overwhemled with all of the options to choose from!

Well, the good new is is that Diamond Dave made it back from Vegas in one piece AND he even brought back a little money with him too! 

The JCK show was filled with miles and miles of jewelry vendors offering the newest, the latest and the greatest in the jewelry business.  Dave claimed once again, there was too many vendors to get through all of them (I'm guessing he wanted to spend some time by the pool), but he saw hundreds of great new rings styles for both men and women and products he is excited to bring to our showroom!  Some products we could expect to see as early as the end of the month! 

Now for the bad news..... the industry news.....As most of you have heard gold prices have been on the rise and unfortunately diamond prices are starting to creep up as well!  In fact, most manufacturers will not commit to orders any longer thatn 2 months just to keep up with the changing times and the unforseen future of what the market may do!  We'll keep you posted on any future developements!
